Call for Abstracts
Call for abstracts is now open!
The 6th World Ecoacoustics Congress (WEC) will include scientific presentations aimed to introduce and discuss new research, and advances in ecoacoustics.
Ecoacoustics is an interdisciplinary science that investigates natural and anthropogenic sounds, and their relationship with the environment over a wide range of spatial and temporal scales, including populations, communities, and landscapes. Ecoacoustics operates in all types of terrestrial (air and soil) and aquatic (freshwater and marine) ecosystems.
Ecoacoustics recognises that sounds can be both the tools and subject of ecological research. As tools, sounds are used to study and monitor animal diversity, abundance, behaviour, dynamics and distribution, and their relationship with ecosystems and the environment. As the subject, sounds are investigated in order to understand their evolution, functions and properties under environmental pressures.
We are excited to announce that the call for abstracts is now open and invite you to submit your proposal at this upcoming event, scheduled for 17th-20th of August 2026, in Cairns (Gimuy), Australia.
Submissions close on the 28th of March 2026.
Communication formats
Three communication formats are available for the 6th WEC:
- Open talks: Oral communications presented in a scientific session for a maximum of 12 minutes (plus 3 minutes of questions).
- Speed talks: Oral communication presented in a scientific session for a maximum of 5 minutes (no individual question time; questions will be at the end to all the presenters).
- Posters: Visual reports displayed in printed format the presenting author will stand by the poster and interact with WEC attendees for 45 minutes in a poster session.
Talks and posters will be organised by common themes and topics within the scientific program.
Submission guidelines
If you are interested in submitting an abstract, please fill this form in and submit it before March 28th 2026. After assessment of the abstracts received by the Scientific and Advisory committees, the author will be notified of their proposal outcome before April 15th 2026. If accepted, the author will be invited to register and will be contacted by the technical secretariat for further details.
If the abstract you’re submitting is a research proposal (i.e., the research will still be beginning at or after the time of the congress) it should be submitted as a speed talk or poster.
If you’re a student and would like to be considered and judged for the WEC2026 student awards, please indicate so in the appropriate sections in the abstract submission form.
Please submit your abstract via the online submission form with the following information:
- Presenting author
- Full first (lower case) followed by family name(s) in CAPS
- Title or position
- Affiliation or organisation (Department, Institution, Country)
- Email address
- Co-authors
